Uralic Ethnic Studies Award 🔭

Since 2012, academic works by representatives of kindred Uralic peoples without their own statehood are recognised in two categories. Laureates will be announced on the Kindred Peoples' Day.

Competition of 2023

  • The deadline for submitting nominations is 31 August 2023. 
  • The awards recognise research work of kindred Uralic peoples without their own statehood.
  • This year, the competition welcomes the works of researchers who are based outside the Russian Federation.
  • Applications should be submitted electronically.
  • We kindly ask you to familiarise yourself with the statute of the award and the guidelines for nominating candidates (see below).

Laureates will be announced on the Kindred Peoples’ Day, which this year falls on 21 October 2023.

Since 2012, academic works by representatives of kindred Uralic peoples without their own statehood are recognised in two categories:

Uralic Ethnic Studies AWARD:
  • is issued for academic work about Uralic ethnic sciences (literature, linguistics, history, archaeology, ethnology, folkloristics) in any language.
Scientific research published in a Uralic language AWARD:
  • is issued for academic work in any field written in a Uralic language.

The awards are given out for a monograph, collection or full volume published within the past four years. Laureates of the Uralic Ethnic Studies Award and the Scientific Research Published In A Uralic Language Award are determined by an expert evaluation committee and approved by the Board of the Kindred Peoples’ Programme.

The prize fund is 2,500 euros.

Competition of 2023

The awards are given out for a monograph, collection or full volume published within the past four years (2019—2023). Anyone can make a nomination, and self-nomination is also permitted. This year, the competition welcomes the works of researchers who are based outside the Russian Federation.

Deadline for submitting nominations: 31.08.2023.

Applications should be submitted electronically, the following information must be provided in the electronic nomination form:

NB! All uploaded file names must include reference to the content of the document and the nominee’s name! For example: Reference_JohnSmith; ListOfPublications_JohnSmith.
NB! Since the electronic form cannot be saved before submission, please fill it out only once you have all the required documents at hand to be uploaded with the nomination.  We kindly ask you to familiarise yourself with the statute of the award and the guidelines for nominating candidates. The coordinator of the Kindred Peoples’ Programme will send you a confirmation email when your nomination has been received.
Laureates are announced on the Kindred Peoples’ Day (the third Saturday of October), which this year falls on 21 October 2023.
